Design For Positive Impact
Design for positive impact is a mantra and the primary focus for the Creative Bears. Everything we design should have a positive impact on the climate and environment. It exists to help change processes, mindsets and ways of working. By bringing the question to the forefront of a creative brief, we ensure we do our very best to minimise waste and impact.
>> The Back Story.
Within the creative industries, the decisions we make as designers, marketeers, creative agencies and production companies creates a huge amount of environmental impact every year. Working in the industry for over 20 years you see that impact first hand. The exhibition stand that goes straight into the skip after a 2 day event, the retail fit out that is designed just for Christmas, the piece of furniture beautifully designed to last only a day. For too long we have turned a blind eye to the impact our decisions make and we must act now if we want to make a difference. It is our responsibility to inform, educate and work with our clients to create solutions that have the absolute minimal impact on the planet and the environment.
UK events industry emits 1.2bn kg of CO2e every year.
Report from June 2019
Statistics propose that around 26 million tonnes of waste in the TV and Film industry is produced every year in the UK.
Just under half of that is recycled.
It is the main priority of the Creative Bears to change this mindset and drive change at the very beginning of the creative process.
creative bears GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Using a circular design approach means all aspects of the brief focus on the environmental impact from the outset. No more after thoughts or last minute decisions. A simple step by step methodology is what is required and using the following four principles we can achieve amazing results with a minimal amount of waste.
1. design IT for longevity
Something designed in a way that means the item can last a long time in its designed state.
2. Design IT for REUSE
Something designed in a way that means it or its component parts can be reused over and over again.
3. design IT TO BE rePURPOSED
Something designed in a way that means it or its components can be made into something completely new.
4. DESIGN IT TO BE RECYCLED
Something designed in a way that means it or its components can be recycled into raw materials for something new.
